General information only
The guides, glossary, questions and calculators on LendCedar explain how personal installment loans work in general. They are written for a broad US audience, not for your finances, your state’s latest amendments or your loan agreement. LendCedar is not a lender, a loan broker or a government agency, and it does not decide who gets credit.
Not legal, tax or financial advice
Nothing on this site is legal, tax, credit or financial advice, and reading it does not create a client or advisory relationship with anyone. For a decision that depends on your circumstances, talk to a qualified professional: an attorney licensed in your state, a tax preparer, or a nonprofit credit counselor. For a question about a specific lender’s terms, ask the lender and get the answer in writing.
Examples are not offers
Every figure in a worked example or calculator result is an illustration. A line such as “$10,000 at 14% for 36 months comes to $341.78 a month” shows how the math works. It is not a rate anyone has offered you and not a prediction of what you will be offered. Real offers depend on the lender, your credit, your income, your state and the date. The methodology page lists what each calculator assumes and leaves out.
Rules change: check the source
Rate caps, fee limits and license rules are set by statute and regulators, and they change. Each state page shows the date its rules were checked, and dated changes are logged on Rule changes. Even so, a law may have changed since our last check. Before you sign:
- Read the Truth in Lending disclosure and the loan agreement the lender gives you.
- Check the lender’s license in NMLS Consumer Access, or ask your state regulator (see State rules).
- Confirm any state limit that matters to you with the regulator or the statute itself.
